Moscow Metro employs new technology against terrorism

The Moscow metro is planning to begin trials of a state-of-the-art security system.

The trial will be carried out at the Okhotny Ryad station.

The new security system includes metal detectors, X-ray machines and information terminals.

It boasts 72 CCTV cameras and can even detect dangerous substances in the air. Explosives, however, are still out of its detection range.

If the trial is a success, the system will be introduced at the capital's busiest stations.

The decision to beef up security on city transport came after the recent attack on Domodedovo airport, when a suicide bomber killed 37 people and injured around 200.
